Scope:

  • WG-04 develops and maintains the compression Transfer Syntaxes used in the Standard.

Current supplements, work and objective:

  • Sup 244 Frame Deflate Transfer Syntax out for letter ballot

Risks:

  • Lack of adoption of new Transfer Syntaxes

Challenges and opportunities (environment):

  • WG-04 continues to track developments in video and still frame compression schemes, which occasionally justify new Transfer Syntaxes when specific performance or features are useful, and balanced against interoperability issues raised by proliferation of schemes

Future roadmap and objectives (committee direction):

  • No new work items proposed

Past work:

  • Sup 232 JPEG XL Transfer Syntax
  • Sup 235 HTJ2K Transfer Syntax

Relationships to Other Standards:

  • Liaison with ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG1 (JPEG) remains active but no actionable items at this time other then responding to intermittent request for reviews of their new schemes (e.g., JPEG-XS) and tracking their activities (e.g., JPEG-AI).
